Peaceful and violent demonstrations erupted in London and European cities in response to the execution of Professor Francisco Ferrer. Crowds clashed with police in Madrid, Barcelona, and beyond as protesters denounced the Spanish government, with banners and cries denouncing the king and calling for revolutionary action. A posse of about 60 men engaged two escaped convicts in a night chase in Salem Oregon. One convict, George Carter, is dead and George Dun is gravely wounded. Albert Ferrin, serving a burglary sentence, is also wounded. The fugitives were found upstream and Duncan was carried on a stretcher during daylight. The confrontation began with a hail of gunfire at the first volley.
Mrs Bruce Price of Tuxedo Park was killed in an automobile crash on the Harriman estate road to Arden. Mrs Charles J Coulter suffered a broken arm and injuries while the Coulter chauffeur and a 13-year-old son were unhurt as the car skidded into brush after trying to pass a car.

Poughkeepsie Oct 17 A wreck near Rhinecliff on the Hudson River killed one passenger, a peddler, and injured fourteen. President W H Brown of the New York Central and ex-president W M Newman were among the shaken officials aboard the third West Express section. a broken rail caused cars to topple and jammed passengers in the day coach. A temporary hospital was set up at the Hudson Valley Hotel with doctors from Poughkeepsie and Albany tending the injured. trains resumed on the northbound track by 8 p.m. while investigators blamed the broken rail for the crash.
A party of three men and five women were rescued from a small auxiliary boat adrift in Long Island Sound after engine failure and rough seas. Some chose to stay with the craft until a tug and the Yale steamship rescued them. among the rescued were Rev Raymond J Davies and Martha Dobbs sisters and cousin Barry Dobbs. Miss Martha Dobbs refused to abandon the boat. The Yale relayed details to relatives and authorities as the craft drifted before capsizing. Former Representative Finley dies in Williamsburg, Ky. Obituary notes he led Kentucky Republicans for years.
An early morning southbound Katy Flyer on the Missouri Kansas and Texas line collided with an open switch near Halstead, six miles east of here. Engineer Crawford of the freight and Fireman Fr. Statemes of the passenger train died. several passengers were injured as both engines and cars were badly wrecked.
