Wright Glider Test Demonstrates Birdlike Flight
Orville Wright tests a new glider with Wilbur, spending fifteen minutes in the air at Norfolk in a 14 mile breeze. He aims to prove aerial navigation can be as safe as automobiling by focusing on natural flight rather than speed or altitude. The craft lifted in light wind, gliding to land multiple times with quiet, birdlike alightings. Wright notes it may perform better in storms than in calm weather if wind reaches twenty miles per hour.
