Richter, who entered naval service in 1900, had served on the Oregon and New Jersey and was senior engineering officer of the Marietta at the time of his death. The motive remains unknown and the companion who accompanied him last night was not identified.
Howard Barrill, the Mount McKinley guide, challenges Dr Cook’s account, saying the pair never reached higher than about 8 000 to 9 000 feet and that Cook’s summit depiction was misrepresented. Clinton BI Oct. 14 Coll. Vespasian Warner returned from Blesington and said he has not decided if he will resign as commissioner of pensions. He plans to allow time for decisis for a month or more. The decision may depend on health and whether M. Warner takes an extended vacation. In Warner's absence, it is suggested someone else may resign to care for family matters.
In Boston on October 14 Ernest H L Mar An of this city was convicted of sending a Black Hand letter to James F Whitla threatening to kidnap Whitla's son a second time unless $10,000 was paid. Martin faces sentencing tomorrow.
Cape Haitien October 14 reports that Gen Guellito former governor of Monte Cristi has landed a force of Dominican revolutionists and reunions between Puerto Plata and Monte Cristi. A Dominican gunboat arrived too late to prevent the landing. The revolutionists will proceed to Jafavon tomorrow.
