Georgetown ceremony honors Ignatius Loyola spirit in student education
A Georgetown Mass and sermon by Rev Aloysius Brosnan marked the year’s student work dedication. Attendants included Justice and Mrs White, George Washington University officials, Georgetown faculty, hospital staff, and many Washington figures. The sermon reflected on Loyola’s education ideals and Roosevelt era warnings about muckrakers and unrest.

Spared Pauper Grave: Dennis Long's Remains Rescue From Potter's Field
Dennis Long, a Confederate veteran who died at the workhouse hospital, will not be buried in the potter's field. Southern veterans groups demanded honorable burial, with J T. Patty coordinating removal to J William Lee’s undertaking house. Funeral plans, possibly in Arlington Confederate veterans’ section, were under discussion with Father McGuire officiating and Mount Olivet as a possible site. Long had lived in Washington since 1868 after serving in the Army of Northern Virginia Irish Brigade and once wore his gray uniform. He had recent legal trouble and sought confinement in the workhouse, receiving six months.
