McAdoo Asked to Withdraw US Deposits for Americans in Turkey

Secretary McAdoo is urged by the State Department to authorize withdrawing 50 000 to 75 000 dollars of US deposits in the Bank of England for relief of Americans in Turkey. Funds would move via the British Bank at Alexandria and the cruiser North Carolina would distribute them to American officials in Turkish ports. American schools at Smyrna Beirut Jerusalem and Constantinople lack funds as Turkish banks refuse drafts and gold remains the sole currency.
