William Elroy Curtis prominent traveler journalist and writer on political topics died suddenly in his hotel room in Philadelphia at age 61. Born Akron Ohio 1850 he worked with Chicago Inter Ocean and Chicago Record Herald and served as U S commissioner to South and Central American republics and as director of the Bureau of American Republics from 1890 to 1893.
