Four Die At Sparrows Point Furnace Coolant Blast

Special to The Washington Post Baltimore Maryland reports four men killed instantly and several injured at Maryland Steel Company Sparrows Point when a tuyere cooler blew out during replacement of Tuyere No 7. Eight to ten carloads of coke heated to whiteness and a gas discharge engulfed workers. Dead include William Alexander Matt Trent Silas Street Benjamin Sooz. Injured named include Egbert Reds William Murphy George Werrington Johnson Andrew Ulty foreman James McNichols foreman Joseph Kelly Frederick Markel and Joseph Crowley. An inquest was held verdict an unavoidable accident.

Veteran in Potter's Field Dies of Thirst in Virginia

Howard Forrester a 72 year old Civil War veteran was found near his Hampton home dying of thirst with a water bucket nearby. Assailant Sentenced in Culpeper Court

George Griffin, a mulatto, was sentenced to fifteen years in the penitentiary for attempted assault on a young white county girl. The trial in Culpeper Circuit Court lasted two days.
