Washington 3 Chicago 2 in yesterday’s game. Patten pitched superbly for the Nationals, facing four innings without a hit and allowing two runs late. Smith’s erratic control and four walks helped Washington convert early chances into runs. Chicago’s outfield saw limited action as Patten’s varied speeds kept hitters off balance.
