National Commission Reclaims Advances in Baseball Notes
The National Commission has required players who took advance money from clubs to repay it, but has not yet required Don Donovan of the St. Louis Nationals to receive the rest of his salary from last season. Pat Donovan has transformed a group of tail enders into a real team in six weeks. The Browns claim a triple steal on Case Patten in a Sunday game, with Padden scoring and two others moving up as well. Jesse Tannehill will miss Boston’s remaining games due to a tendon injury and return home to Cincinnati. Young Dineen Gibson and Winters to pitch the rest. Cincinnati players urged Manager Kelley to release them, but he kept them for the final game. The commission sanctioned Baltimore’s wholesale drafting by Brooklyn, both partly owned by Ned Hanlon, with Baltimore players to report again when the season opens. The commission is seen as aiding influential clubs while hindering weaker ones.
