Thanksgiving dinner price surge blamed on heat and drought

A U S expert says Thanksgiving meals will cost 35 to 100 percent more than a decade ago due to spoiled turkeys from unseasonably warm weather, drought reducing potato crops, and suspected middlemen hoarding. Hens’ reduced laying and broader price rises extend along the supply chain. Turkey is not the traditional mainstay, as Christmas is the peak turkey time per Dr Mary Pennington. Prices for pork rib roast beef and other staples also rise while flour sugar stay cheaper. Chicago sees an egg boycott pressuring sellers to curb prices to 32 cents a dozen for April eggs.
