Hagerman Seen as Roosevelt Choice to Succeed Otero in New Mexico
Predictions in official circles say President Roosevelt will name a new governor for New Mexico to replace Miguel A Otero. Herbert J Hagerman, former second secretary at the U.S. Embassy in St Petersburg, is favored with strong backing from Hitchcock era officials. Otero retains support for a satisfactory business administration, though long tenure is noted as a factor. Secretary J W Reynolds, in Washington, defends the governor by noting past charges against Otero were leveled by rivals seeking favors and were found groundless.
