Post Office Budget Proposes Growth in Core Postal Services

Estimates for the Post-office Department for the year ending June 1907 show a net salary increase of 29 thousand dollars, with a large rise in Rural Free Delivery and Railway Mail Service costs. The overall postal service budget rises about 12 million dollars, driven by rural delivery, railway mail, postmaster and carrier compensation, and pneumatic tube expansion. Curtailed expenditures aim to balance the expansion in core facilities against savings. The department reports a 14.6 million dollar deficit for 1906, while revenue exceeded expenditures by about 0.5 million in 1905.
