Once More History Repeats In New York Theater Sale
New York Telegraph editor Rennold Wolf laments a repeat of wartime theater woes. At Liberty Theater auction for a Frisia-Lambs charity bill, public indifference contrasted with a lineup of fifty star players who donated performances for the United War Charities Fund. The event underscored performers’ patriotism and the public’s tepid support amid ongoing war.

Metropolitan Theater Opens Soon In Washington
The new Metropolitan Theater on F Street near Ninth and Tenth is nearing completion and will open Saturday November 23. The Washington style house by HM Crandall is designed by local architect Reginald W Geare with a 1000 seat orchestra and cantilever balcony. The lobby, marble interior, and mauve lavender decor highlight the Adam era plan. The organ, Bishop synchronized timing, and a two thirds hall arrangement with tunnels are notable innovations. Arthur L D Rob will manage.

George C Tyler recalls forming the Liebler Company with Theodore Liebler and Jack Reed after reading Charles Coghlan’s play The Royal Box. Tyler financed Coghlan’s project, then swapped stakes for Reed’s deal on The Christian, which later yielded significant profits though Coghlan died soon after.
