Year 18 Jail for Two Eggs in West Virginia

Special to The Washington Post Huntington West Virginia November 16. Charles H Thamel was sentenced to a year in the state penitentiary for theft of two eggs. It was his second petit larceny conviction that under state statutes qualifies as a felony. The theft occurred weeks ago while he painted a sign for Star Meat Market. Witnesses testified Thamel placed two eggs in his pocket. Attorneys for Thamel claimed insanity. Magistrate Stuart had committed him to the insane asylum on November 29 1912. The jury verdict came in 9 minutes.
