Deny Insults to Chile Rumors Suppressed by Officials
A Washington inquiry at two departments and the Chilean embassy found no basis for rumors that American naval officers peppered a Chilean admiral with ice cream or that an old shoe was hurled at a statue. Treasury Secretary McAdoo and Chilean attaché J Dittborn denied the stories, calling them unfounded.

Wise on Army Medals and Reorganization Bill
Speculation grows in army circles over a section of the army reorganization bill that would create a five general officer board on the retired list to investigate medals of honor. If a medal is found awarded for any reason other than actual combat distinction, the recipient’s name would be struck from the official list and the medal barred from display. Maj Gen Leonard Wood is singled out as a likely member, with many retired generals and several active officers named as potential appointees.
