Mrs Clarence Moore widow of the Titanic victim offered the use of her home at 1748 Massachusetts avenue for the injured women. Mrs A J Clapp and her sister Mrs John Lloyd were thrown from a runaway runabout on Massachusetts avenue near O street. Mrs Clapp suffered a fractured arm and concussion while Mrs Lloyd had bruises and shock. Both were taken to Emergency Hospital and later to their home after treatment.

Mrs C B Allen of 1820 Florida Avenue NW was thrown from an automobile that struck a streetcar at Eighth Street and Florida Avenue NW. Her husband, driving, escaped only slight bruises. both vehicles suffered little damage and they drove off after police recorded their names.

Summer Home Burned In Takoma Park Fire
The Takoma Park residence of Mrs. Theodore P Culley at Oak and Tulip avenues suffered several thousand dollars in damage overnight. The three-story frame house, unoccupied for winter, was saved from total loss by Engine Company 2 Brightwood. Fire started in furnace or laundry area, believed to be from one of those sources, and wrecked much of the interior. Mrs Culley, returning after preparations for summer occupancy, aided firefighters as they quenched the blaze. She could not provide an exact loss estimate.

Rear Admiral John Lowe TSN retired aged 74 was overcome by indigestion on a Seventh street car. The car halted at Calvert street and Officer Foley helped him to Dr S W Woodard’s office after treatment. Mobilized by C N Congers the admiral was taken to his home at 222 Woodley place. He later recovered fully.

First Memorial Day Idea From Pickett Grave Discovery
Mrs LaSalle Corbell Pickett widow of Confederate Gen Pickett recalls the genesis of Memorial Day from the discovery by her husband’s dog of an unmarked grave near Richmond. The grave held Federal and Confederate remains and led to a floral memory tradition that included Arlington and her son buried in the Philippines.

Dr Samuel Waggaman, aged 7? years, longtime botany and materia medica professor and founder of the National College of Pharmacy, died yesterday from paralysis at 1681 Thirty-fourth Street NW. He served in the Civil War, graduated Baltimore Medical College in 1870, and left a widow Mary P Waggaman and eight children and other relatives.

John Stone six years old living at 747 Sixth Street Southeast suffered a fracture of the right collarbone after a motorcycle ridden by Harry A Gladman of 306 Pennsylvania Avenue Southeast knocked him down. Harry Spenak five years old of 8 Ts street North Treat was knocked down by a messenger boy on a bicycle and taken to the Children’s Hospital where Dr Boyce from Emergency Hospital found concussion of the brain and severe bruises. he is expected to recover.
