Kindergarten School Faces Closure Without Public Aid

The Washington Kindergarten and Training School, once Phoebe Hearst Free Kindergarten, has closed after a year of struggle after Mrs Hearst withdrew support. Graduating exercises were held May 23 with 18 students and 50 younger children. An association formed to save the college failed to secure funds, despite an advisory committee and prominent supporters. Some hope remains for reopening if funds materialize by the next school year.
