American Liner Haverford Goes Aground Near Queenstown

The American Line steamer Haverford en route from Liverpool to Philadelphia ran onto rocks west of Cork Head in dense fog near Queenstown. After quick distress calls and naval tugs, all 144 cabin and 950 steerage passengers were landed by dusk and arrangements made to forward them to their destinations. The ship was towed off the rocks at midnight and brought to port, with most passengers housed in hotels and smaller hostels. A large rescue fleet surrounded the vessel as crews stayed aboard. Among cabin passengers were Miss Martha Berry and several others from Philadelphia, Cleveland, and Kenova.
