Alaskan Coal Considered for Navy Supply
Admiral Dewey, head of the U S Navy General Board, forwarded a report on using Alaskan coal for the fleet. If Alaska coal meets navy grade, mining and transport costs would rival eastern coal and could be laid in safe Arctic harbors for fleet use, aiding wartime needs. West Virginia coal dominates Pacific supply, with transport costs to Manila and Yokohama adding to overall costs.
