Recognition for Peru Upholds Pan Americanism
The Chilean government officially recognizes the Peruvian administration of Col. Oscar Benavides. Brazil and Argentina notified Peru of recognition as Pan Americanism grows in foreign policy. The United States, Argentina, Brazil, and others agreed to extend recognition, marking anew Latin American cooperation after mediation in the Mexican situation. The State Department instructed the Lima minister to recognize Benavides, whose government was formed by revolution.

Judge Delays Case to Check Law as Baseball Compromise Arrives
In San Francisco on May 2, a $40,000 damage suit against the Southern Pacific Company paused in the superior court when Judge John Hunt stepped to the law library to review a point of law. Upon return, plaintiff John Moller and rail defense counsel shook hands with the jury and announced a $7 compromise as a baseball game lured them away. The judge asked if he should join, but the game prompted the informal settlement and invitation to witnesses to attend.
