Cost of roof fires 23.8 million yearly in U S cities bar wooden shingles

The study shows annual roof fire costs reach 23.809 million with 1916 to 1921 data. Fires stem from sparks and embers on inflammable roofs, prompting campaigns in Indianapolis and Cincinnati to ban wooden shingles and push fire resistant roofing. Despite large populations and losses, campaigns cut roof fire figures and costs in subsequent years. Major cities New York and Chicago lead in incidents but Indianapolis shows notable declines after its program.
