Assails tax on ideas at 36th library convention
Edwin H Anderson of New York urged the American Library Association to abandon the idea that only top powers tax books published abroad. He warned the duty on foreign books is a protective tariff harming readers and the U.S. book industry, citing Bible makers and global production imbalances. The convention opened at Continental Memorial Hall with over 1,500 delegates, many women, and featured exhibits of labor-saving devices at the Public Library.
