Five Ballots For Bishops In Methodist Conference
Regent Hughes leads on the fifth ballot as two bishops win the required two thirds. Bristol drops after 5-cent committee opposes a new creed statement. The conference settles on controversial issues including a universal creed proposal and a resolution denouncing white slave traffic urging governments to act. The Committee of Fifteen’s stance against the creed blocks a possible global Methodist creed, while a Baldwin resolution calls for anti slavery and a plea to President Roosevelt to push an international treaty.
