Half and Half Clash in House Committee On District Funds

Bill Cuts Teachers Pay in Local High Schools

The district appropriation bills reported to the House would cut the high school teachers salary fund by 35000, reducing annual pay for over 200 of 243 teachers by 100 to 1200 dollars. Roy C. Claflin, president of the High School Teachers Union, called a meeting at Technical High School at 330 this afternoon to discuss the issue. The bill reportedly eliminates longevity pay, leaving long serving teachers at one thousand dollars, the same as new hires.
