Mae Catherine Wood testified for hours in New York before Justice O Gorman in a suit for absolute divorce from United States Senator Platt. She claimed a secret marriage at the Fifth Avenue Hotel on November 9 1901 and produced a supposed minister certificate and letters from Platt.
