Titanic Inquiries Hear Lifeboat Shortfalls And Bulkhead Failures
Testimony from crew members at the board of trade inquiry into the Titanic disaster cites fear of overloading lifeboats No 12 with 6 capacity carrying 45 women and children and two sailors. Fireman Barrett describes water pouring into a no water-tect compartment and the empty bunker after the iceberg collision. Steward Johnstone notes many women returned to the saloon not realizing the danger. Senator Smith continues work on a report and will lead a Senate speech on the inquiry.
