Tears and turmoil as Rauscher case unfolds in court

Mrs. Rauscher fainted on the stand amid testimony about wedding gifts. Justice Gould ordered the presents laid out for jurors to decide ownership, noting many gifts traced to New York, New Jersey, and abroad. She recalled 77 items including Venetian lace valued at 100 a yard, a clock, silver, paintings, and other items, some sent to her new name at 9121 Thirteenth Street NW. The couple honeymooned in France before she left Washington with the gifts, claiming them as her own.
