Four men from Maya were convicted in Fayetteville circuit court for destroying coal company property at Willis Branch West Virginia. They were each sentenced to seven years in the state penitentiary at Moundsville, despite a jury recommendation for minimum terms. Judge Berry criticized the destruction as causing labor unrest.
Fifteen scouting vessels and all available aircraft are ordered to search between Hawaii and the Pacific coast for the missing naval tug Conestoga. The Conestoga departed San Francisco March 25 for Samoa via Honolulu and has not been heard from. It is commanded by Lieut. H. L. Jones.
New York May 3 Insolvencies among American firms in April reached 1487 per R G Dun and Company. The number was 151 higher than March while liabilities exceeded 38 million dollars but were 28 million below the prior month. Compared with earlier Aprils, April totals topped early 1913 figures.
