Portrait painter reveals Roosevelt as American, active figure
Baron de Dobtboff, Austrian artist, says President Roosevelt resisted long sittings, preferring quick, on the fly sketches during office visits. He calls Roosevelt intensely American, a whirlwind of energy, with eyes that convey businesslike shrewdness and kindly understanding. The completed life-size portrait was shown at Knoedler Galleries and is tied to the Temple of Peace project.
