Abandoned Baby Case Hooks Police Across Rivers

A newborn was found in a Florence Crittenton Mission basket in Alexandria and a woman in black with a saffron coat boarded a car to Washington. Police fear the mother may have drowned herself in the river after fleeing moments after the infant was found. A nurse at the mission discovered the baby and a note blamed the mother’s insanity. An alert went to Washington police and Barbourville authorities for clues about the possible mother and child’s origin.

Thieves Still at Work in City Neighborhoods

Local police report persistent thefts across districts with numerous items stolen. Victims include Mrs Heller, Mrs Hinckley, A Foracher, N L White, and F Parker among others, detailing pins, spoons, watches, pendants, a bicycle, a gas fixtures looting, and several gold rings. Admits Diamond Theft. Suspect to Return to Schenectady

Hiram Myrowitz, arrested Thursday under the alias Herman Frank, admitted stealing diamonds valued at about $800 and nearly $100 in stones. He told Maj. Sylvester he had worked in jewelry, later claiming he robbed a harber named Grobert of the jewelry and $65. A photo was added to the national rogues gallery, and he agreed to return to Schenectady without requisition proceedings.
