White House garden parties revived by President and Mrs Harding

The President and Mrs Harding planned to revive White House garden parties this season. Spring weather recently brought them outdoors to survey grounds and sketch invitations. Diplomatic corps and Washington society have long valued these events. Vice President Coolidge and Mrs Coolidge gave an afternoon reception for the diplomatic corps, the first of its kind in Washington by a vice president and wife. Notables in attendance wore elegant gowns, and hosts included Mrs France and Mrs New among other embassy-linked guests. Further social rounds and dinners followed, with a schedule of hostesses and attendees at hotels and private homes running into late March.
