White Slaves Heard Kept in Intoxicated State

In New York on March 21 Cora Chester and Hattie Warren testified against Robert H. Spriggs, alleged leader of a sex trafficking den. They described drugging in Tenderloin saloons, captivity on Carnelia Street, and enforced drinking to keep them in a constant intoxicated state under threat of arrest and violence. The Warren witness described kidnapping, a barricaded house, and repeated beatings including a lost tooth, with police fear and cross examination prompting near collapse. The case was adjourned to the next day.
