Guests at Taft dinner admire Japanese tableau and souvenirs

A formal dinner event featured a vivid stage of Japanese touches including a bamboo vase tableau with native hats and warrior shields. Open switch caused collision on City and Suburban line

An open switch on the City and Suburban electric line at Michigan Avenue and Fourth Street Northeast caused cars 38 and 81 to collide, leaving $200 in damage. Conductor Bradley and Motorman Turpin on car 38 and Conductor Amnon and Motorman Sullivan on car 81 were uninjured. investigators plan a formal inquiry today.

Pruitt Jury Deliberating In Second Degree Murder Case

The second Pruitt murder trial opened before Justice Gould in Criminal Court No 1 after the first trial ended with a hung jury. Witnesses said Steele and others drank at Pruitt’s home on June 11, a dispute arose, Steele forced entry and attacked Pruitt, a shotgun discharged during the struggle, Steele died the next day. The jury was given the case at 1 o clock and did not report by early morning. Alternative: Nomination of Wilfred B Homgatt to Alaska governor was postponed in Senate executive session amid objections. He is a former naval officer from Indiana who resigned seven years ago and became a lawyer.

Women in Carnival Honor Mr and Mrs Longworth Event

Last night at the National Rifles Armory a mask carnival by the Ladies Auxiliary Society of the Washington Hebrew Congregation drew a crowded hall. Mildred Minster and Paul Heller won first honors as Mr and Mrs Nicholas Longworth while a variety of costumes from Mephisto to the Washington Monument entertained the audience and encouraged Post subscriptions.
