Sculptor Ward Silent Over Sheridan Statue Row

Special to The Washington Past New York March 11. A Ward the sculptor would not discuss today the reported disagreement between himself and the Sheridan statue commission. In Washington the report involves the rejection of Ward's model for Gen Philip H Sheridan and the cancellation of a contract made fifteen years ago. Ward has been at work on the statue since the contract was given him and several models failed to satisfy the commission. The model finished years ago that pleased Ward was destroyed by him, and he has not been able to please the commission since. Some say the contract cancellation is extraordinary while others note reputations of sculptors. If Ward consented to cancellation the case would be clearer.
