Sculptor Ward Silent On Sheridan Controversy
Special to The Washington Post New York March 11 J A Ward the sculptor refuses to comment on a reported dispute with the Sheridan statue commission over rejection of his model for General Philip H Sheridan and the cancellation of a contract from fifteen years ago. Ward says there is nothing to discuss until the commission’s action is formally transmitted. He notes models submitted failed to satisfy the commission and an earlier favored model may have been destroyed by him. The art world questions the cancellation and notes reputable sculptors rarely act so. if Ward agreed to cancel, the case would be clearer.
