Mansfield as Beau Brummel at National Theater
Richard Mansfield starred as Beau Brummel at the National Theater last night to a large audience. The cast included Morton Selten as the Prince of Wales, Ernest C. Warde as Sheridan, A. G. Andrews as Mortimer, Henry Wenman as Mr Oliver Vincent, Gertrude Gheen as Mariana, Helen Glidden as the Duchess of Leamington, and Alma Hathaway as Lady Farthingale. The performance showed rigider pacing with few standout roles aside from Mansfield whose Brummel was a monotone study that gained color in the final delirium and death scene. Mansfield’s previous film drew warm approval and tonight he repeats Ivan the Terrible.
