Highway boom to spend 100 million in federal aid plan

The United States plans more than 100 million dollars for highway construction and repairs this year under a 75 million emergency road bill. The federal government will share costs with states if state funds for construction match the federal outlay. The program aims to employ about 100,000 workers for a year at roughly 1000 dollars each. The highway bureau of the Agriculture Department leads preparations, with activity already under way nationwide. Bond issues to match federal funds are being discussed in several states. Weather favors southern construction while the north faces delays from rain and snow. crews also plan ahead indoors in several states. Calls for lower rate reductions on road materials intensify, with hearings expected. Co-operating groups include farmers, chambers of commerce, and auto associations.
