Shipley Acquitted By Jury In Self-Defense Claim
Oscar Shipley, colored, was acquitted of manslaughter in the death of Edwin Friend, a sand truck driver, struck last August. A jury before Justice Gould found Shipley acted in self defense after a boisterous play near sand heaps in Georgetown along the Potomac. Shipley, a sand track helper, testified he feared harm as stones flew during the game. Attorneys O’Shea and Emerson defended him, with Assistant US Attorney Leahy handling the movement.
