Woodward withdraws resignation from Board of Charities
Lemuel W. Woodward will remain president of the Board of Charities after a conference with Commissioner Macfarland. He cited private and public business pressures as the reason for offering to resign, but officials argued a new leader could not match his four years of service and familiarity with the board’s aims. The president of the YMCA board of trustees was urged to stay to preserve ongoing reforms and align with late appropriations and board recommendations.
