Rearranging Monitors Guns For Florida Turret Tests

Norfolk Va Mar Preparatory to another test next week of heavy firing from 12 inch guns on the monitor Florida over and in close proximity to her turret to demonstrate that concussion under such firing will not jeopardize men within the turrets below a rearrangement of the heavy guns improvised on the Florida s turret and used in the tests made at sea this week is in progress. Though recent tests proved successful with the exception of shattering and cracking glass below the rearrangement planned will it is believed bring about still more successful results. The test on the Florida proved not only that the turret below such firing will be habitable but the blast had no perceptible effect on the machinery of the ship. The question of the effect of gun blasts arose in connection with the plans of the battleships South Carolina and Michigan which provide for an untried turret arrangement. Both ships will have two turrets fore and aft and set longitudinally the two nearest midship in penny at high elevation and at certain ranges firing over the lower ones their guns muses swinging directly over the roofs of the turrets below.
