Supreme Court Affirms Northern Securities Decision
The Supreme Court yesterday upheld the circuit court ruling in the Harriman case over the Northern Securities Company. The decision, announced by Chief Justice Fuller with no written opinion, favors the company and reverses the New Jersey decree. The case involves distribution of 17300 shares of the Northern Pacific Railway stock, tied to merger plans, and the ruling suggests the rapid, pro rata distribution may proceed.
