Taxis Are Public Carriers Under New Law Say Court
After full argument in Equity Court No 2 Justice Stafford held that Terminal and Federal Taxicab companies fall under the public utilities law for rates and service. Attorneys for the cab firms argued private character, but Corporation Counsel Syme urged that all conveyances are included. The court sustained the view that taxicab operations are public carriers and an order dismissing the complaint will be signed today.

Newport News steamer lands marooned passengers after collision
Forty passengers stranded Monday night on the steamer Newport News off the War College were landed in this city yesterday morning. The damaged ship showed a crushed stern and jammed steering gear, towed by naval tugs Tecumseh and Choctaw. The incident delayed the Southland and Northland, with captains Milburn and Smith slated to report to the Baltimore steamboat office. An investigation could follow if the accident is deemed avoidable, and service to Baltimore may pause until the river clears of ice.
