Capitol Remodel Plans Offered by New York Architects

Two schemes prepared by Carrere & Hastings for the Capitol central structure propose white marble extension of the east front and refacing of the west front. Plan A moves the central block forward, adds two columns, and creates alcoves for storage without enlarging interior space. Plan B adds eighteen rooms but is deemed less picturesque and is to be rejected. Estimated project cost is 1,330,000 dollars with specific allocations for the east front, west front, steps, and sculptural work.
