Wall Street Downgrades Hit Bethlehem Steel Shares
The New York market slid on February 28 amid international crisis restrictions on speculation, with munitions and equipment stocks leading declines. Bethlehem Steel revealed the steepest drops as old stock fell nine points to 120, new shares seven and a half to 105 or so with rights down sharply. Other major losses included New York Air Brake, Industrial Alcohol, General Motors, Gulf States Steel, Atlantic Gulf and West Indies, Mexican Petroleum, Texas Company and American Smelting. United States Steel showed less activity and weaker loss, while coal shares suffered heavy declines amid a general market downturn.
