Platonic Debate With Cupid At Midsummer Beach

A whimsical dialogue unfolds between Plato and Cupid on a moonlit beach about love, reason, and the allure of platonic affection. Cupid boasts growing followers, while Plato laments waning receipts and clings to reason as waves and Neptune’s song set a dreamy, ironic backdrop to their clash over love and philosophy.

Society notes reveal Washington summer plans and arrivals

Social column records residents and visitors preparing for summer in Washington and nearby, mentioning a Brazilian embassy counselor in Chelsea New Jersey, Miss Holcombe entering Bryn Mawr, Hoke Smith family cottages, ministerial visits, and travels to New York and Europe. It notes weddings and domestic arrangements as townspeople and notable families plan seasonably.

Fashionable social scene wanes in London and Prague

Reports describe a decline in high society street collectors in London with fewer smart women present and skepticism about fundraising totals. The piece notes last year’s $95,000 sum, rising questions over expenses, and hints at public fatigue and shifting fashions among the dowager queen’s charities. It also covers social leaders in Dobbs Ferry planning a model village and campaign agendas for parks, saloons, sanitation, and education, plus a misadventure of Richard Werens in Marienbad and a Russian Ballet Theater appearance featuring the baroness Vele de Cuestre in Greek costume and ornate footwear.

Leftover Meats Reimagined In Corned Beef Salad And More

A corned beef salad mixes diced meat with terragon vinegar celery seed capers pepper and Worcester sauce, resting before serving on crisp lettuce. Other ideas include ham sandwiches and potted ham, plus beef and lamb leftovers broiled then served with parsley and butter or simmered with bones onion and pepper for three hours to make a jelly served with mayonnaise salad.
