Wheat Prices Fall Sharply Amid Weak Economic Signals
Wheat futures slumped across Chicago and Kansas City with July futures dropping about 10 to 9 cents, while September slid several cents as free selling by holders and expectations of heavy receipts pressured the market. Reports cite unsettled conditions, possible rail and elevator strikes, and lowered cash quotations aiding the decline. In New York, two sugar refineries reduced first quotations to 5.20 a pound for fine granulated as refinery prices hit new lows.
