Mellon Lets U S Certificates Redeem at Par Before Maturity

Treasury Secretary Mellon announced authority for Federal Reserve banks to redeem Series 6 certificates of indebtedness before their July 15 maturity at par plus accrued interest. Holders may choose cash at present or keep until July 15 to receive full interest. Net impact depends on redemption volume, with potential significant interest savings for the government. The note issue remains well funded due to tax receipts and oversubscription of June notes.
