The Ithican crew from Cornell wins the race with a strong finish as two shells rowed neck and neck over four miles. The Navy crew places third after a last sprint, with the leaders remaining within twenty five feet for most of the race and Cornell making a dramatic surge in the final hundred yards.
Cornell defeats Columbia by a nose in a tight four mile race on the Hudson at Poughkeepsie. Navy Annapolis crew placed third, Wisconsin won the freshmen eight, Syracuse took the varsity four, with Saratoga weather delaying the start. Ten thousand spectators watched the thrilling finish under Arkasasas glow.
In Fittaburg on June 2 health officers arrested about a hundred people under an anti spitting ordinance. Offenders were fined one dollar for the first offense and posted a forfeiture for tomorrow. No discrimination noted as workers and merchants mingled with others in magistrates offices. Officials vow to continue arrests until nuisance ends.
A severe storm and cloudburst hit Sapulpa and surrounding areas in the Glenn oil pool. Three people died in Sapulpa as water flooded streets, plate glass shattered, and a hotel roof was torn off. Over 150 oil derricks toppled in the Glenn pool and Osage Nation, with 54 derricks down at Turley. Maize reports overturned houses and demolished brick buildings. Muscogee suffered extensive losses as wells ran wild and flooded the land.

Houston Va June 26 The defense argues emotional insanity to shield Judge William G Loving from impeachment over Miss Elizabeth Loving story of a buggy ride with Theodore Estes. Prosecution calls Annie Kidd to rebut and disprove the tale while contending Loving acted in haste shooting Estes. The trial centers on whether the daughter’s account and alleged drugging are true or false.
A novel wedding was held at the chapel of the Blessed Sacrament in Buffalo where both bride Mary Alice Carroll and groom John O Rourke are deaf and mute. The ceremony used finger signs for questions and responses officiated by Rev Father T P O Rourke with translation by Rev Father P Gilmore. After the trip they will reside in Haverhill Massachusetts.
Denver reports that F D Goodail J F Manning John J Hoban J D Willamson C D Campbell and Everett Belt directors of the Gold Leaf Consolidated Mines Co were indicted by the Federal grand jury for using the mails to defraud. Those in Denver appeared in court and posted bail. The holding company allegedly sold stock in several related firms under false claims to mine ownership in the Clear Creek district Colorado.
Baltimore June 26 Roosevelt and his official family faced sharp criticism at the tenth annual Afro American Council convention in Baltimore. Speakers assailed the President and Taft while praising Senator Poraker as a leading figure. Bishop Walters labeled the President's last message unjust to Negroes and compared Poraker to Sumner.
Warner Van Norden hosted a dinner at the Metropolitan Club in New York for Capt. Van Ashbeck and eleven officers of the Dutch cruiser Gelderland anchored in the North River. Guests included Commander Schoonhoven Lieutenants Halewyn Schuttervaer Telders Ridder Brig Utteren Midshipmen Van Der Pen De Loemen Poolman Van Mie and Dyleman. Roosevelt telegram read Oyster Bay June 26 conveyed greetings from Theodore Roosevelt.
Harry Parrish of Canton Ohio assistant superintendent of properties for Ringling Bros circus died after falling from the top of the main tent center pole. He was unmarried and had been with the circus some time. The incident occurred in Albany during June. Further details pending from agents.
A Broad Street broker discovered brand new Treasury $2 gold certificates stamped with an English business card. The stamp offended him, as defacing currency is a $100 federal offense. He consulted the U S district attorney but chose not to pursue the matter after weighing potential costs.
John C. Proctor’s estate leaves two million dollars to the Proctor endowment at Peoria. Funds will support a boys and girls laundry, a day nursery for mothers and children, a manual training school, and an orphanage, with $850,000 already spent on a seed home. John Adams a wealthy Pike County cattle dealer tied to the Wellman faction was ambushed and shot while passing a brushy area on the Esau Moore place. William Bechtel, ex president of Northwestern National Life, testified he slipped a $200 envelope to Insurance Commissioner Elmer H. Dearth in February 1904, claiming Dearth accepted a bribe while in office. Bechtel said the bribe was offered for favorable treatment as Dearth resisted taking it. Bechtel, recently convicted of grand larceny in related affairs, recalled the event.
Haphale Squad, who pleaded guilty to assaulting an eleven year old girl, killed himself in the Newark jail by diving from a third floor balcony to the lower floor. He died minutes after the fall. He had warned prisoners he would kill himself rather than be killed by officers and said he would be sentenced to death, though the offense was not capital.

A June thunderstorm in New York City and nearby areas claimed two lives. John Lawless, 50, of 46 Court Street in Brooklyn, was instantly killed by a bolt. In Orange New Jersey, Miss McKenna, daughter of J A McKenna of 298 Fourth Avenue Newark, died under a tree while seeking shelter with her father and a sitter at Union. Her sister was seriously hurt as the father sustained injuries. An ambulance from Orange carried the injured McKenna girl home. she was expected to recover.

A company will form to finance the project and a New Jersey franchise will be sought to bypass municipal approvals in Jersey City and Newark.
A Buffalo man learns his Liverpool mother died at sea after traveling to meet her. On arrival in New York, the purser informs Mr Camp that his mother Mrs Camp of Liverpool died suddenly and was buried at sea. A Baptist missionary, Rev A S Sharp, mourns at the library with telegram about his wife’s Denver burial.
Special to The Washington Fest from New York reports Jacob A. Riis, noted philanthropist and sociologist, will marry his longtime secretary Mary Phillips in August. Phillips, 25, has assisted Riis as stenographer and literary helper for years. Riis and Phillips plan quiet preparations in Ipswich Massachusetts while Riis dodges questions.
The Taft administration plans to move most Washington canal staff to Panama and abolish top posts including general auditor Ernest Benson and purchasing officer David Ross. About 190 workers face transfer or separation as retrenchments tighten canal operations.
