Escape of Miners From Burning Stoley Breaker

Special to The Washington Post from Scranton Pa June 23 The Stoley breaker at Old Forge operated by Hallett McClure Co burned forcing 15 miners to flee through a second opening and a shaft rescue saved them as surface crews hurried to reach the scene The mine had a daily capacity of 1200 tons with about 700 workers.

Brooklyn Robbers Take 1500 From Bank to Wedding Hall

Miss Jennie Sakol, 17, was knocked down on East New York Avenue as two men robbed her of $1,500 from a bank book. They fled by a delivery wagon, pursued by a crowd, distance growing as the horse was whipped into a gallop toward Canarsie. Sakol described a smooth faced man, blue coat and striped trousers, as the aggressor.

Woman Burned Trying to Save Papers in Home Fire

In J Sharon Ga this afternoon a fire destroyed the dwelling of W. P. BidKeon. His elderly mother perished while Mrs. McKeon, in the yard, entered the burning house to save papers and was overcome by smoke and heat. The BidKeon family is prominent locally.

New York Enforces Quarantine on Esperanza Voyage

On June 25 New York enforced quarantine rules for yellow fever exposed steamship passengers aboard the Ward Line Esperanza from Vera Cruz Progreso and Havana carrying 200 passengers including 128 from Havana. Of those, 123 were sent to Hartman’s Island under doctor supervision who say they are free of fever germs and may be released Sunday.

Sudden Madness in New Jersey Jail Ends in Striking Murder

A Freehold jail witness, a black man, suddenly went insane during shaving and attacked his nineteen year old son, another murder case witness. He slashed the son's throat, then fought guards as they tried to restrain him. Officers used a shotgun and blank shots before a keeper placed him in a straitjacket. The elder man died later. the son died tonight from wounds.

Medals for Hergism Save Child and Woman

President Roosevelt awarded bronze medals of honor to locomotive engineers Charles W. Haight of Utica New York and George H. Williams of Braintree Massachusetts for heroic acts. Haight plucked a child from between rails at West Windsor New York on April 26, 1905 while his engine ran at speed. Williams ran in front of an approaching train to rescue a woman at Quincy Massachusetts on December 21, 1903, sustaining injuries that sidelined him for four months. The medals are not yet struck as the mint design is being prepared by Adolph Weinman based on a United States Mint design.

Twin and triple births across Texas regions

Two sets of triplets were reported in Texas. In Dallas Vernon, J Hagler and wife welcomed two sets of triplet boys, boosting their brood to fifteen children. Death in Sea Storm Off New Jersey Coast

A yacht and two trading schooners were sunk about a mile off shore during a sudden gale on the Jersey coast. All aboard are believed drowned as waterspouts formed and the storm intensified. Packing Plant Closed Amid Newspaper Criticism and Legislation

Louisville June 22 The Louisvile Packing Company plant owned by Cudahy Packing closed for an indefinite period. Established 1892 it employed about 350 men with annual output of 20060 cattle and 290000 hogs. Plant equipment valued at 300000 supplied about 3 percent of local meat.
