Lynch as Pastor Pleads Amid Mob Lynching

Americus Georgia June 2 William Redging a negro who shot Chief of Police William C Barrow as he was being taken to prison was recaptured and lynched by a mob of about 400. The crowd dragged him from the jail hanged him to a street corner and riddled the body with bullets. Barrow was badly wounded and fired at Redding. a bystander was hit. The mob overpowered deputies and strung Redding up then fired at the swinging body before dispersing. Barrow has led the police for 25 years.
